Individual Healing Sessions
What Service is being offered?
When unresolved emotional issues are triggered, it is distressing, and it makes it harder to act the way we would like to or know we should.
My speciality is to help people work though unresolved emotional issues that make doing life hard, and to clarify and change any spiritual dynamics that may be acting as a negative influence on current circumstances.
Background
My background is in ordained ministry, in “inner healing” and having worked as a counsellor/ psychotherapist and marriage counsellor for 10 years. In that time I have become specialized in the overlap between emotional(psychological) dynamics and spiritual dynamics. This has become my expertise. In early 2009, I stopped calling myself a counsellor as the healing techniques I have come to specialize in are primarily spiritual ones. Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists are by definition expected to, and are known for, specializing in psychological interventions. While I deeply respect and appreciate the essential work therapists do, since I am now openly majoring in spiritual interventions I have chosen to drop that title.
My approach is to educate people about spiritual and emotional dynamics and work with them to change these for the better.
Are there risks involved?
It is not possible to guarantee any particular outcome. However, you will find that as we work together you will be in a position to make well informed choices about any course of action that we take. The nature of this kind of work is that we either work together or we don’t do anything.
Some people will feel their symptoms more strongly after beginning to work on them: it can be as if they are finally giving themselves permission to feel them fully, and this can be painful. Sometimes emotional pain can affect our bodies and cause symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, or even breathing problems. If the emotions or symptoms are very disabling, they can affect your everyday life or even occasionally lead to the desire to self-harm. Please be up front about any history of disabling emotions and let me know the severity of what you are feeling during the course of our work together.
It is suggested that before entering into this healing journey that you acknowledge what activities bring you joy and a sense of wellbeing and actively plan to keep doing these things as you address what may be deep personal issues. Remembering to do things that bring you joy and make you feel grounded are an essential part of any healing journey. This includes making space and time to enjoy and keep healthy the good relationships you already have. It is a courageous thing to explore areas of yourself that you have not yet achieved mastery over, so it is important to put in place what will keep you safe and things that nurture your spirit. By doing this you set yourself up for success.
Successful work together generally means that you will grow more emotionally mature and may be different in how you react to situations and people around you. While this is good, it is possible that others around you may not react positively to these changes, so you need to be aware of the risk of stress or conflict coming into existing relationships.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Practitioners are required by professional ethics to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Information about you will not be given out without your consent. When we start working together you will sign an agreement to allow me to pass on relevant information to doctors, counsellors, pastoral care associates, or psychiatric services to which I may refer you and allow me to discuss your case in clinical supervision meetings where identifying information is not required.
If there are any other reasons to disclose information about you or use our session records, it will be discussed with you first and your written consent will be asked for. The only exceptions to the requirement for permission would be if I was required by law to provide information to third parties. Examples of such situations are session records being subpoenaed or if I suspect you intend to harm yourself or others, or if you disclose information concerning current child abuse/ neglect.
Practitioners keep session records in order to keep track of the issues being addressed and reflect on the process.
Fees
My fees are a flat rate of $120 per hour for the duration of the session. Standard sessions are for 1hr or 1hr 15mins($150). Longer sessions such as 3hrs ( $360) can be negotiated as can periods of intensive work. If we are working on something that is still not resolved, most people prefer to keep going and finish it rather than to stop and come back another day: this is particularly relevant in spiritual work. Please be aware you need to pay on the day by cash or cheque. I apologize for not having card processing facilities. Some concessions are available especially for longer sessions.
Please also be aware that fees are charged for failure to attend your appointment or for giving less than 24hrs notification of your inability to attend. The fee is 100% of your normal fee. The reason for this is that a missed appointment that cannot be filled results in a direct loss of income.
Enjoy
So much for all the heavy stuff. On a lighter note, it is reasonable to expect that as you resolve emotional and spiritual issues that your capacity for joy will gradually increase. And, just because you are working on resolving something doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the journey. I look forward to working together.
