Spiritual Epigenetics

Spiritual Heritage as an epigenetic consideration.

Epigenetics is the science that explores factors which turn genes on and off. There is something more than the gene which determines whether a person will see the ultimate expression of that gene in their bodies. Although a troublesome gene is present something above (epi) or in the environement of the gene can control whether the gene is expressed or not.

Some factors being actively explored that can effect gene expression are nutrition, poisons, drugs, exercise, stress, sound, beliefs and who knows what else. In fact, those exploring controlling factors that effect gene expression  are very excited. The belief used to be, 'if it is genetic, there is nothing you can do about it'. The evidence keeps accumulating that all sorts of things can effect the way our genes are expressed, or not expressed, as the hope may be.

In my work doing emotional healing I have seen time and time again how removing inherited spiritual influences can make a massive change to the person I am working with. Somehow the brain-mind-spirit is freed to simply work much better, to be able to overcome previously entrenched emotional patterns and hence patterns of behavior.

It is axiomatic that we inherit our genes. However, part of the environment that determines our gene expression is also the spiritual heritage that comes with them. We cannot change what or ancestors did or experienced, however we can change - in a really big way - the effects that those actions can have on us now. Epigenetics is about changing the environment of genes so that defective ones do not get expressed. As a practitioner I have no doubt that changing the spiritual environment of my clients has a significant effect on their wellbeing.

Will changing the inherited spiritual environment of a client change their gene expression? Given that so many other factors change gene expression one would expect so. I'm looking forward to seeing more concrete evidence of this.
